Friendship and Udon

Going out with a group of friends is something I am not wont to do.

At least, that's something I haven't been doing for quite a while.

That is, until this year, where I've (somehow) managed to meet the same group of people not once, but twice, in the short span of half a year.

The last time we met we decided to meet at Clarke Quay near the office of one of our friends.

This time we decided to meet a little more eastwards- Bugis- to be precise.

It wasn't hard for us to set a date.

Neither was it hard for us to set a location.

Trying to decide what we ought to have for dinner was another story, however.

None of us could make up our minds.

From the suggestions of yakiniku to mookata to hotpot to fried chicken, from the suggestions of Japanese fusion to Thai boat noodles to pancakes and Korean pizza, we went through them all.

But we couldn't decide.

It wasn't until we gathered outside McDonalds that we decided we'd just walk around and then make up our minds from there.

One of us thought we might be able to have sushi. at Sushi Plus, but then the Friday night queue....

After that there was a suggestion for Korean fried chicken at Chir Chir, but us being us, we couldn't make up our minds.

In the end, after some deliberation, we looked about us and agreed on Kazokutei, whose restaurant was cheery and bright, whose display pictures looked amazing, and best of all, had no queue.

None of us had had a meal here before.

So it was some time before we decided what we'd have.

One of us ordered a pork cutlet omu rice served with Japanese curry.

Another one of us decided to have clam cream nabeyaki udon.

And two of us unanimously decided that the red miso cheese cutlet nabeyaki udon looked good.

There were a couple of sides- a plate of fries, some little pieces of fried chicken, and a little omelet.

One of us- me- fell under the spell of the lychee soda and decided to have it.

It was a lovely chat we had with each other.

One of us had just returned from abroad so there were a couple of stories to tell.

One of us had her child on an exchange program overseas and we got quite excited talking about the experience and everything.

Then another one of us had samples of a hydration Active Glow Mist at the ready.

I think our focus was very much on the food and chatting with each other, so much so that we didn't quite notice the time.

Time passes quickly when the food is good and when the conversation is good.

I don't know whether the omu rice was good, but the cutlet on it- when the plate arrived- didn't look too bad.

The red miso was surprisingly mild.

It looked more red in the picture than what appeared on our table.

Still it was good.

The soup had a bit of faint milky taste, the flavors of the miso were strong and I loved the chewiness of the udon. The cutlet was crispy as well, even though I think much of the cheese had melted into the soup by the time I was finishing my bowl.

It's only a bit of a pity that we couldn't hang around longer.

Maybe some of us were a little tired (end of week and all)

But there're plans to have drinks and dinner, and I hope we'll get to chill out together longer the next time.
