Bangkok: Protein Shakes TOPS

I, once again, do not have many pictures of this last day here in BKK.

Not because I didn't go anywhere.

Not because I didn't do anything.

But because there were limitations of time and I couldn't have the space nor the mind to take Chonkycam out.

(I'll have to do better)

Especially since there's so much that BKK has to offer and I am thankful for each opportunity that I get to be there.

This morning at breakfast I took from the buffet counter more or less the same thing that I'd been taking for the last couple of days- and I wasn't bored.

Let's just say that there's not much which will shake me from the likes of stir-fried flat rice noodles with soy sauce.

And there'll also not be much that will shake me from eggs, which I really do love.

Of course, I wasn't going to miss out on the delicious, crunchy sugar doughnut/cronut from the buffet counter, and because there were Portuguese egg tarts on the tray this morning, I took one.

I can't remember whether I had the doughnuts with butter, or not.

Maybe I did.

Maybe I didn't.

I can't remember whether I took anything else from the buffet counter.

There might have been a cup of yogurt.

I can't remember.

Breakfast over, we headed downstairs to TOPS on the 7th floor of Central World to get bottles of protein shakes.

These shakes have become a staple buy whenever we come here to BKK, and so meaningful these bottles are to us that we drink them quite sparingly whenever we're back on the island.

Chocolate is a favorite flavor, but we've taken banana and Thai Milk Tea.

After that we went back, packed, checked out, then headed back down to Central World for lunch.

My friend introduced me to this Japanese restaurant called Tonkotsu Wako that he said served up really fantastic tonkotsu.

At first I didn't quite understand.

But I got it when they brought over the tray.

It wasn't the mere fact that this rather large, chunky, thick, juicy piece of pork tonkotsu had been skilfully breaded and perfectly fried.

It wasn't just that the breadcrumbs felt like they had been breaded light in a bit of tempura style.

And it wasn't just that you could have unlimited servings of cabbage and rice.

Now it wouldn't be fair to compare it with, say, another well-known tonkotsu restaurant in town that I frequent, but OMG, this tonkotsu was really, really good.

I don't mean just the price (even though I must say being able to enjoy this meal 60% of what I would pay elsewhere- on the island- was a major draw)

I also don't mean the tonkotsu, even though in and of itself this deep fried breaded pork cutlet was already so good.

No, out of all this, it was the rice.

The rice here at Tonkotsu Wako was 150% legit.

All along I'd thought I knew what fluffy Japanese pearl rice was, but not until this afternoon, eating this rice for the very first time, that I understood what it meant when they talked about the warmth a bowl of perfectly cooked rice brought to spirit and soul.

We headed back to the hotel right after and got a Grab to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The plane took off at 1625 local time.
