Was pretty determined to have my fill of breakfast this morning at the cafe in Moxy, so upon being guided to our table, decided I'd take a round to see the offerings instead of heading straight to the egg station as I normally would.
Perhaps I was in the mood for a nicer meal this morning.
Perhaps I was curious to see what style of morning meal Moxy Ratchaprasong would have.
Let's just say they didn't disappoint.
Yes, you had the usual- the American style, the Continental style etc etc- but there were fun stuff at the restaurant here too, and for my first plate, this I headed straight for.
See, it's not every place that serves you pancakes in the shape of cartoon characters, and although the cat looked a little bit lopsided, you could still tell it was Sanrio's Hello Kitty, and in any case the taste of batter did not disappoint. At the pancake station they had condiments in the form of honey, maple syrup, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, and jam.
I aimed for the butter.
I aimed for two siew mais (because I'm Chinese and I cannot resist siew mais) and decided on a sausage at the very last minute too.
Along with this cute little plate was another plate of specially-cooked scrambled eggs that the staff made for me at the egg station.
And I liked how the eggs were done- wet, fluffy and easy to eat.
I didn't think I had my fill after I'd finished, so back to the rounds I went, and this time I came back with an omelet (with everything), cherry tomatoes, dragonfruit, a cute little raisin muffin, some yogurt and some milk pudding that I think had blueberry in it.
We hung out a little while at the alfresco area after we were done, and then back up it was to the room for further work.
I have fond memories of the alfresco area, actually.
You might not feel it at first- especially when the weather's bright and sunny and glaring- but they've got a view, and they've got winds.
Plenty of them.
It's interesting how you don't think very much about the view or the place until after you've left, but now I find myself wondering about the big cushions and tumbly seats over at the corner, or the wood tables where I'm sure on many an evening, hotel guests might have sneaked in bags of street food and had a sort of mini picnic there.
Lunch time we headed out to a place that I had- since March of this year- specifically wanted to try.
It's no secret that Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice comes from Pratunam, Thailand, and this time, they were literally downstairs a 2 minute walk away, so yes, down we went to the original outlet where we were (like many recommended food places in BKK) faced with a queue.
Didn't take too long, fortunately, and anyway in the meantime I occupied myself with taking pictures.
Go-Ang Pratunam Hainanese Chicken Rice has two outlets in the vicinity.
One's on Phetchaburi Road (facing Palladium World) and the other's on Ratchadamri Road, facing the skywalk, and Central World.
We were at the Ratchadamri one, and may I just say that this has to be one of the busiest streets in all of Bangkok, day or night.
There's just so much traffic, human, tuk-tuk, motorbike, car or otherwise.
And if you're here in the early afternoon (like us), it's sunny and hot and bright.
But the food's worth it.
This afternoon we decided on a plate of chicken rice- one steamed, one battered-fried, and a duck soup with vegetables, because- for some reason- the Thais and Thai-Chinese do their duck soups very well and we were curious to know if this were the same as the other I still remembered so well.
The one thing you must never skip out on when you're here is the rice.
Don't ask me how they do it.
But Go-Ang's rice is one of those foods that I can easily polish off the whole plate, and were it not for the diet and all, I could polish off two.
Their chicken's great too, and even though I'm usually not the kind who will go for steamed chicken skin, Go-Ang's I don't mind, and if my friend doesn't want it, I'll have it too.
The thing that caught our eye, however, was the battered and fried one.
Crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, just the way I like my chicken.
The only food I couldn't take was the cubed blood.
I know there're people who love it and miss it, but it's beyond me to place a chonk of blood inside my mouth, and best, if I don't need to make it so.
We headed back to the room afterwards, for work, and also for more pictures.
From which side of the hotel or the room I took these pictures of the Chidlom side, I don't really remember, but one could look out all the way past the big space of land I call the broadcast field, and Chidlom Central (with the TOPS) was on the other side.
Of course I wasn't able to resist taking more pictures of my bouquet, this time, of the roses, the hydrangeas, the carnations, the baby's breath, and yes, the lilies.
Later in the evening we headed out for dinner at this restaurant at Hotel Indigo on Wireless Road.
Getting there at this hour we decided to eschew the Grab and took the BTS to Phloen Chit station, where we then alighted, went down the escalator and crossed into the area I tend to call the Embassy Row.
Named CHAR Restaurant on the 25th floor, this place serves up premium grilled meat, and seafood.
So, we went for both.
First up though was the view from our table, which, thankfully, we had been seated by one of the windows.
It was gorgeous.
To be honest I wish I knew where it was I was looking at, but in one of the pictures' there's the Krungsri Bank, and if I'm not wrong, we were looking towards the area off Chidlom right into Langsuan.
I might be wrong, of course, but it's been a few months since I've come to know this area of BKK better and even though I really cannot recognize the skyscrapers, I can have a slight gauge of the area, and the direction it faces.
There was, of course, the food.
We were served with bread, accompanied by three little dollops one of which, if I'm not wrong, was butter, one was Thai milk tea cream, and one was pandan cream.
After that came our orders, and this evening we had one of steak, one of creamed spinach (which was so good, I assure you), and one of salmon on pasta with pesto sauce.
There's another which we ordered, but for the life of me, I can't remember now.
My friend told me the steak, done medium rare was good.
It's not as small as what the picture seems- this was halfway through the meal- and in any case, that big chonk of a roasted garlic made it rather fun to (inelegantly) dig through.
I loved the creamed spinach.
There aren't many places where the cream is filling yet does not make you bloated and full.
CHAR's one of them, and filled as we were with our mains, we had no problems finishing up the plate of spinach swimming around in a creamy, yet light sea of cream.
Same is to be said of my salmon on pasta as well.
One would have thought the pasta make me feel stuffed- it being, if I'm not wrong, pappardelle (very much like the Chinese mee pok)- and not a small portion it was too, but it didn't fill me up in the way I had assumed it would.
In fact, not only was I able to finish it, I was able to appreciate the pesto sauce in which the pasta was bathed in.
It might have been the pistachio nuts sprinkled all over the sauce.
Or it might have been the tender, soft, flavorful salmon that sat delicately upon the bed of pasta.
